HBO Game of Thrones

6 sep 2011, 22:45

Based on the A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R. R. Martin this tv series is set in the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, where "summers span decades and winters can last a lifetime". Game of Thrones chronicles the violent dynastic struggles among the kingdom's noble families for control of the Iron Throne; as the series opens, additional threats from the snow and ice covered region north of Westeros and from the eastern continent across a narrow sea are simultaneously beginning to rise.

The cast in this series are great and I personally think the child actors are brilliant. The first series focuses mainly on the Starks, Baratheons, Lannisters and Targaryens. Below is an outline of the families and people who ‘belong’ with them.

The Starks

Sean Bean plays Lord Eddard Stark of Winterfell in the North of Westeros. His wife Catelyn is played by Micelle Fairley and their children are Robb (Richard Madden), Sansa (Sophie Turner), Arya (Maisie Williams), Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright) and Rickon (Art Parkinson). Much to his wifes annoyance Eddard also has a bastard son, Jon Snow played by Kit Harington, who also lives with them. Also living with the Starks is Theon Greyjoy, played by Alfie Allen (Lily Allens brother) who is a political hostage and ward for Lord Eddard.

The Baratheons

King Robert Baratheon of the Seven Kingdoms, based in Kings Landing is played by Mark Addy, and his wife, Queen Cersei Lannister, is played by Lena Headey. They have 3 children: Joffrey, played by Jack Gleeson, Myrcella, played by Aimee Richardson, and Tommen played by Callum Wharry. Joffreys bodyguard, Sandor "The Hound" Clegane is played by Rory McCann and Aidan Gillen plays Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish, Master of Coin for King Robert's Small Council. Vary “The Spider”, the master of whisperers is played by Conleth Hill. Robert’s youngest brother, Renly Baratheon, is played by Gethin Anthony.

The Lannisters

Queen Cersei’s father Tywin Lannister, Lord of Casterly Rock, is played by Charles Dance. Her twin brother Ser Jaime Lannister is played by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and the clever dwarf Tyrion “The Imp” Lannister is played by Peter Dinklage.

The Targaryens

Across the narrow sea are brother and sister Viserys Targaryen (the beggar king), played by Harry Lloyd and Daenerys "Dany" Targaryen, played by Emilia Clarke. Dany is married to Drogo, Khal of the Dothraki (horse lords) across the narrow sea.

I see that this series is either being aired or is due to be aired on either Ziggo or HBO Netherlands. If you get the chance I would highly recommend it.

The Hangover Part II

14 jun 2011, 15:02

Bangkok, ‘Stag do’, Blackout and the ultimate hangover. The Wolfpack is back, what’s not to love. Throw Justin Bartha, Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis into the mix and you get a really fun movie. The guys are all back for this second part (even Mr. Chow) and as the title suggests, they end up with the mother of all hangovers.

This time around it’s Stu’s (Ed Helms) turn to tie the knot to his beautiful fiancé Lauren (Jamie Chung) and the wedding is in Thailand. This time around though Ed, Doug (Justin Bartha), Alan (Zach Galifianakis) and Phil (Bradley Cooper) are not taking any chances so they decide to have a few quiet drinks on the beach and Lauren’s 16 year old brother Teddy (Mason Lee) tags along. Que the déjà vu feeling from the first film as they all make a toast  and then the screen goes black…….

What then follows is them realizing they are in Bangkok, they lost Teddy, Mr. Chow has turned up, Stu has a face tattoo, Alan has a shaved head, there’s a monkey in the bathroom and none of them can remember what happened the night before or how they ended up in Bangkok. This is the set-up for the rest of the movie where they run around Bangkok trying to piece together the night before, find Teddy and get Stu back on time for the wedding.

All in all I really enjoyed this film and if you want to laugh this is the film to go to. It’s funny stuff and as with the first film Zach Galifianakis plays the hapless Alan with brilliant innocence. Bangkok is a great setting for the film and there are encounters with all kinds of crazy people and set-ups for some great one-liners ("We made a pact, Wolfpack only."). There are even a few surprises thrown in and some references to the first film which will have you laughing out loud. That said you don’t have to see the first film to watch this one. Bradley Cooper seems to relish the role of Phil and you can notice that the actors playing the ‘Wolfpack’ are good friends in real life too, the chemistry is brilliant.

Have a look at the trailer posted on my profile page and laugh out loud. But don’t worry, there are a lot more funny bits in the film and some of them are quite unexpected :)

2. Zijn we vrienden?
3. Wanneer en hoe hebben we elkaar ontmoet?
4. Heb je een crush op mij?
5. Zou je me kussen?
6. Geef me een bijnaam en verklaar waarom je net deze hebt gekozen.
7. Beschrijf me in 1 woord.
8. Wat was je eerste indruk van me?
9. Bekijk je me nog steeds op dezelfde manier?
10. Wat herinnert je aan mij?
11. Als je me iets kon geven, wat zou het zijn?
12. Hoe goed ken je me?
13. Wanneer heb je me voor het laatst gezien?
14. Ever wanted to tell me something, but
couldn't?
15. Ga je dit ook op je blog posten om te zien wat ik over jou zeg?
