The Hangover Part II

Bangkok, ‘Stag do’, Blackout and the ultimate hangover. The Wolfpack is back, what’s not to love. Throw Justin Bartha, Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis into the mix and you get a really fun movie. The guys are all back for this second part (even Mr. Chow) and as the title suggests, they end up with the mother of all hangovers.

This time around it’s Stu’s (Ed Helms) turn to tie the knot to his beautiful fiancé Lauren (Jamie Chung) and the wedding is in Thailand. This time around though Ed, Doug (Justin Bartha), Alan (Zach Galifianakis) and Phil (Bradley Cooper) are not taking any chances so they decide to have a few quiet drinks on the beach and Lauren’s 16 year old brother Teddy (Mason Lee) tags along. Que the déjà vu feeling from the first film as they all make a toast  and then the screen goes black…….

What then follows is them realizing they are in Bangkok, they lost Teddy, Mr. Chow has turned up, Stu has a face tattoo, Alan has a shaved head, there’s a monkey in the bathroom and none of them can remember what happened the night before or how they ended up in Bangkok. This is the set-up for the rest of the movie where they run around Bangkok trying to piece together the night before, find Teddy and get Stu back on time for the wedding.

All in all I really enjoyed this film and if you want to laugh this is the film to go to. It’s funny stuff and as with the first film Zach Galifianakis plays the hapless Alan with brilliant innocence. Bangkok is a great setting for the film and there are encounters with all kinds of crazy people and set-ups for some great one-liners ("We made a pact, Wolfpack only."). There are even a few surprises thrown in and some references to the first film which will have you laughing out loud. That said you don’t have to see the first film to watch this one. Bradley Cooper seems to relish the role of Phil and you can notice that the actors playing the ‘Wolfpack’ are good friends in real life too, the chemistry is brilliant.

Have a look at the trailer posted on my profile page and laugh out loud. But don’t worry, there are a lot more funny bits in the film and some of them are quite unexpected :)
